The Swan Label |

The Swan is an eco-label initiated by the Nordic Council of Ministers and mainly used in the Nordic Countries. The Swan label is the customer’s guarantee that the product is among the least environmentally damaging products on the market - and still performs to quality and functional specifications.
Eco-labels can be seen on a number of everyday commodities and services such as cleaning agents, hotels etc. and on more durable goods, e.g. furniture. Food products, beverages and drugs cannot be Swan-labelled.

| The EU Flower |
The Flower is the official eco-label of the EU. In Denmark the supervising bodies are The Danish Environmental Protection Agency and the Danish Eco-label Board with members from industry and commerce, consumer and environmental organizations and the authorities. The Eco-label Secretariat is in charge of the daily administration of the Flower. When deciding whether to initiate an investigation of the feasibility of eco-labelling a certain product, the below factors (defined by the EU Commission) are of vital importance to the European Eco-label Board:
- Will eco-labelling a certain product line really constitute an environmental improvement? Is - Is eco-labelling the right instrument to ensure less environmentally damaging production? - Is there a market for eco-labelled products within the business area in question?

| About Eco-labels |
Any product will influence the environment in some way - when it is produced, when it is used and when it ends its days as waste. An eco-labelled product has, therefore, been evaluated from birth (as raw material) till death (as waste) - in other words during its entire life cycle.
An eco-labelled product is: - among the least environmentally damaging products within its category - evaluated on the basis of a life cycle assessment - guaranteed on the basis of an impartial control
in Denmark the Eco-label Secretariat ( ecolabel.dk ) and the Eco-label Board together with other Nordic secretariats, boards and Danish authorities are shaping the rules that apply to the individual eco-label.
The Eco-label Secretariat deals with the daily administration in connection with eco-label applications and also makes sure that the rules governing the use of the label are observed. Eco-labelling is a voluntary system - and it is expensive to obtain and use an eco-label.
